F-2 Visa for Dependents of Students

Qualifications:
 The F-2 visa is available to the spouse and/or child of an F-1 visa holder.

Requirements:
 A spouse and/or child of an F-1 applicant is eligible for an F-2 visa if: 

1. The alien can prove the relationship, by marriage or birth ceritificate; 
2. The alien has sufficient funds available to cover expenses while in the UnitedStates; and
3. The alien intends to leave the United States upon the expiration of the visa status of the F-1 student. 

Duration of Visa:
 An F-2 visa is valid for as long as the F-1 student's visa is valid, typically for the duration of studies in addition to any practical training
